Role Overview:
As the Director of Engineering, you will lead the product development process from ideation to execution while collaborating across departments to ensure high-quality, cost-effective, and timely solutions. This role requires a strong understanding of engineering design, manufacturing processes, and ERP systems to optimize production and maximize efficiency.
You will report directly to the President and play a key role in shaping the company’s growth and innovation. This is a great opportunity for someone passionate about design, engineering, and bringing ideas to life in a manufacturing setting.
Responsibilities:
  • Lead and Develop the Engineering Team: Manage, mentor, and grow a small team of designers and engineers, fostering a collaborative and high-performance culture.
  • Product Development: Oversee the full product lifecycle from conceptualization to manufacturing, including design, prototyping, material sourcing, and testing.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with operations, production, and sales teams to ensure product specifications, timelines, and quality standards are met.
  • Innovation and Continuous Improvement: Drive advancements in design, materials, and engineering processes to meet evolving customer needs and industry trends.
  • Quality Assurance: Ensure all products meet the highest quality and regulatory standards, including UL certifications.
  • Project Management: Oversee timelines, budgets, and resources to deliver projects on time and within scope.
  • Strategic Vision: Contribute to the long-term product roadmap, integrating emerging technologies and design trends to maintain a competitive edge.
  • Operational Efficiency: Monitor team performance, optimize internal systems, and propose innovative solutions for continuous improvement.
  • Budget and Resource Management: Prepare and oversee the engineering department’s budget, ensuring efficient allocation of resources.
  • Hiring and Training: Recruit, onboard, and develop engineering talent to strengthen the team’s capabilities.
Requirements:
  • Leadership Experience: Proven ability to lead a multidisciplinary engineering team in a fast-paced environment.
  • Design & Engineering Expertise: Strong background in manufacturing, preferably within lighting, furniture, or a related industry.
  • Hands-On Mindset: Comfortable working directly on CAD modeling, prototyping, and testing, with a solid understanding of manufacturing processes.
  • Project Management: Demonstrated success in delivering projects on time and within budget.
  • Communication Skills: Ability to convey complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Technical Proficiency: Extensive experience with engineering software, including SolidWorks.
  • Entrepreneurial Approach: Ability to thrive in a small, fast-moving company environment, balancing strategic planning with hands-on execution.
  • Education: BSc/MSc in Engineering,
