Legal Specialist – Trusts and Medicaid Compliance
Location: Denver
Employment Type: Temporary Contract Position – anticipated 20 hours per month
Job Store Staffing are seeking a highly skilled Legal Specialist to provide support in the review, interpretation, and administration of legal documentation related to trusts, Medicaid eligibility, and related compliance matters. The ideal candidate for the Legal Specialist will have a strong background in trust law, public policy, and Medicaid regulations, and will work closely with our client to ensure the accurate and timely completion of all assigned tasks.
Schedule: The Legal Specialist is a temporary role projected to last a year and anticipated to be 20 hours per month but will fluctuate with need. Candidates must be located in the Denver Metro area and available for in-person training but may work remotely after training.
Pay: $30-45/hr
Key Responsibilities:
- Review and administer legal documentation, including non-exempt trusts and related documents.
- Interpret trust instruments and other legal documents.
- Conduct legal research on statutes, case law, regulations, and secondary sources.
- Draft trust determination letters and correspondence to trustees.
- Prepare claims reports and assist with trust recoveries.
- Research relevant federal and state materials to ensure compliance.
- Assist with legal proceedings, administrative appeals, and court filings related to trusts and overpayment recoveries.
- Ensure all deliverables are accurate, high quality, and compliant with applicable laws and Department guidelines.
General Requirements:
- Comply with all applicable Federal and State statutes, regulations, and Department requirements.
- Collaborate with the Department, incorporating feedback and guidance during the course of the work.
- Coordinate and prioritize tasks to meet all deadlines.
- Maintain internal quality control for all deliverables to ensure accuracy, clarity, and compliance.
- Respond to Department inquiries within one business day and maintain effective communication.
- Provide supporting documentation upon request and enable document exchange in Microsoft Office-compatible formats.
Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Law, Accounting & Finance, Business Administration, Health Care Administration, Public Policy, or related field.
- Experience:
- Minimum of 3 years drafting, reviewing, and interpreting trust instruments.
- Minimum of 3 years preparing or reviewing trust accounting.
- Minimum of 3 years evaluating applicant resources for Medicaid eligibility.
- Experience in Trusts & Estates, Elder Law, or Health Care Law.
- Experience applying federal and state Medicaid regulations.
- Experience interpreting public policy.
- Completed background check required.

- Ability to work collaboratively with stakeholders and adapt to changing priorities.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).

- This is a flexible position allowing employees to gain more experience in trust and estate law and also gaining direct experience with a state department. After training remote work is allowed. Work must be completed in Colorado only.
